IMPACT & ANNUAL REPORTS

Preparing More Than 45 UNICEF Publications

How GPS coordinated the writing, editing, and design of a vast tranche of technical and public-facing documents before the closure of UNICEF’s South Asia regional office in early 2026.

The Challenge

As UNICEF’s Regional Office for South Asia prepared to close in early 2026, it faced a backlog of more than 45 reports, some written and edited in line with the UNICEF Style Guide, others in note form. None had been professionally edited, and many retained tracked changes, unresolved comments, and questions requiring input from document owners and stakeholders.

The portfolio ranged from 170-page technical guidance to annual reports on community health and nutrition, case studies, and success stories. Every publication needed high-quality editing, stakeholder approval, and design that met UNICEF brand standards. And they needed to be published before the office closed.

The Approach

GPS created a coordinated workflow that allowed documents at different stages to advance in parallel. We worked with each publication’s owner and stakeholders to resolve queries, consolidate feedback, and manage successive reviews while monitoring the portfolio-wide deadline.

We edited the documents, resolved tracked changes and comments, strengthened the structure and language, and preserved the technical meaning. Once approved, each manuscript was transformed into a clear, accessible, UNICEF-branded publication with a layout tailored to its audience and content.

What the Project Delivered

  • 45 professionally edited and designed publications

  • Coordinated approval with document owners and stakeholders

  • Accessibility in lengthy technical guidance documents

  • Brand-aligned design specific to the document and audience

  • All documents edited and designed with stakeholder approval on deadline

The Results

Over eight months, GPS brought 45 unfinished manuscripts through editing, review, design, and final production. The project cleared the backlog before the office closed and prepared a substantial body of research, guidance, program learning, and success stories for public release.

Managing the work as a single portfolio resulted in consistent editorial and design standards across documents of different lengths, audiences, and levels of technical complexity. Owners and stakeholders remained involved without losing sight of the overall schedule.

The Insight

Large publication portfolios depend on clear ownership, disciplined review, and close coordination between editing and design. Combining those functions allowed GPS to protect quality while meeting a fixed deadline across a large portfolio of reports.
